First of all, let’s talk about what a black box is. Black boxes are not actually black like their name. It is an orange-red box in the cockpits of airplanes. Thanks to their mottled color, they can be easily recognized after an accident.

Inside the box, there is a receiver wrapped with shock-absorbing protection layers. These receivers record sound and information. It instantly records information from the computer systems of the aircraft it is in, and also records everything spoken in the cockpit.

Black boxes are the first item sought after ensuring the safety of passengers and crew after a plane crash. The receiver inside an orange box actually gives information about why the plane crashed. Thus, it turns out whether the accident was caused by a pilot, flight director, air traffic control officer or a problem with the aircraft. This gives a boost to the aviation industry for the next phases.

Now let’s come to the reason why airplanes are not made with this material when such a solid material is already known. The answer is actually quite simple. “Cost”. First of all, the titanium or steel cast blocks from which the black box is made are quite heavy. Let’s think about the cost of jet fuel that will arise when we calculate the size of an airplane produced with these materials because of its weight, or when we calculate the size of the engines that can fly such an airplane. In short, cost-based situations answer the question in your mind negatively.
