The Germans continue to use gas for heating.
Berlin A large number of apartments and houses in Germany are heated with gas – and many people are under pressure because of the current high prices caused by the energy crisis that has been keeping the world in suspense since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine began in February.
The demand for alternatives to gas heating is correspondingly high. According to the Federal Statistical Office, however, a rethink has been on the cards since last year – i.e. even before the crisis – at least in the area of new construction of apartments and houses. More heat pumps are installed here than gas heaters.
But how is Germany currently heating? This is shown by figures from the statisticians for the years 2016 to 2020. Also which types of heating were installed in newly completed residential buildings. There are clear regional differences – an overview.
