WhatsApp, which announced the Instagram stories-like status update feature in recent years, has started working to increase the use of this feature. The status update notification feature, detected by the WABetaInfo team, started to be tested in the Android 2.24.6.19 beta version.

Thanks to this development, users will be able to send direct notifications when they mention certain people in their status updates.
As you can see in the screenshot, WhatsApp is testing a feature to notify users when there are new unseen status updates shared by users. It is estimated that this feature will be available to the end user in 2024.
In a possible scenario, notifications can be sent if the user is mentioned in a status update that has not yet been checked. This mechanism will ensure that users are informed of important updates that directly concern them.
Another potential factor that triggers notifications is stated to be based on interactions with favorite contacts. WhatsApp will prioritize informing users about unseen status updates from people they have bookmarked.
