WhatsApp, which came to the fore with technologies inspired by Telegram and Signal, announced a new feature that prioritizes privacy. Thanks to the WhatsApp Channels feature, users will be able to access the content shared by the channels they follow in a separate tab called “Updates”, which will also include the Status tab.

Meta stepped up its efforts to take the competition among messaging apps to the next level. Announcing that it will gather Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp under a single roof in the past months, the company announced that its new feature called “Channels” will be available.

Users will be able to follow the important information shared in a safe and practical way, just like in the Telegram application. Making a statement on the subject, the company said, “All technologies in the standard message section such as text, photos, videos, stickers and surveys will be used in the Channels feature of WhatsApp. The feature, where only channel officials can write messages, will soon be available to our users.” made statements.

To help users discover channels of their interests, WhatsApp is working on a new search feature. It should be noted that users can join channels through invitation links.

Stating that privacy will be at the forefront, the company underlined that users’ personal information will not be shared with anyone in the Channels feature. Expressing that channel managers cannot see personal information, the company stated that they will only keep the history of the channels on their servers for 30 days.

Admins will have the ability to block screenshots and messages from their channel. Additionally, admins will be able to control who can follow their channels and decide whether their channels will show up in searches.

WhatsApp will launch its new feature first in Colombia and Singapore. This feature is expected to be available in more countries in the coming months.
