Berlin Are economic relations between Russia and the West shattered for the foreseeable future? In view of the war of aggression against Ukraine, in which Russian President Vladimir Putin is advancing ever further, this question is becoming increasingly pressing. At some point the fighting will decrease and the West will possibly lift its sanctions. But is it even conceivable that there will be a return to pre-war relations?

This question is now also occupying the economy. The chairman of the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, Oliver Hermes, is one of the first to start a debate about it. “It’s currently less about the sanctions and their consequences and more about the question of whether we will still have significant economic relations with Russia in the future or not,” said Hermes.
