Dusseldorf The European Union (EU) wants to reduce the energy consumption of buildings and to do this, divide residential buildings into efficiency classes depending on how much they are heated. Up until now, there has been no obligation to modernize a building to a specific level of efficiency. But she should come. The EU is working on a building guideline for this. Which energy efficiency classes are there for residential buildings in Germany?

The Building Energy Act recognizes nine energy efficiency classes: from A+ to H. The reference value for each class is the amount of energy that the owner has to supply to keep the building warm, cool, ventilate and provide hot water.

A building with efficiency class A+ requires a maximum of 30 kilowatt hours per square meter of floor space per year. With class H it is more than 250 kilowatt hours per square meter and year. It is not yet known which efficiency classes the 19 million residential buildings have in detail.
