What Happens to Severely Damaged Tesla Cars? Can it be repaired?

Tesla has an “Unsupported Vehicle Policy” that even most Tesla vehicle owners do not know about. This policy, in its crudest terms, explains what will happen to “destroyed” Tesla cars.

Heavily damaged, or as we hear it more in daily life, “pert” cars, is one of the biggest problems of traffic in Turkey. For obvious reasons, wrecked cars are repaired, whether good or bad, and put back into traffic, rather than being scrapped. As you can imagine, the safety of these vehicles for both the driver and other vehicles and people in traffic poses a big question mark.

What about an electric car, or to be more specific? What happens if Tesla crashes? Is it possible to take it to a familiar mechanic, have it repaired and continue driving? Tesla, the world’s most popular electric car brand, has also prepared a procedure for severely damaged vehicles. This procedure, called “Unsupported Vehicle Policy”, shows Tesla’s perspective on abandoned cars.

Which vehicles does Tesla consider as “pert”?

Tesla described the policy in question as “Tesla deems it unsafe for service or fast charging” While stating that he prepared for the vehicles, he defined these vehicles as “The vehicle is declared a total loss, usually after extensive damage caused by an accident, flood, fire or similar hazard, and salvaged, rebuilt, scrap vehicle by owner or equivalently registered (or eligible to be registered) in accordance with local jurisdiction or industry practiceHe does it as “.

Tesla to verify whether the vehicle is or should be classified as unsupported;

  • From government or regulatory bodies,
  • From insurance companies,
  • From Tesla Approved Damage Centers and Tesla Service Centers,
  • From the results of other internal investigations,
  • From independent vehicle history organizations (e.g. Experian Auto Check),
  • From internet forums and vehicle auction sites

He states that he can get help as well as use resources that are not limited to these. In other words, in order for a vehicle to be classified as an “unsupported vehicle”, legal authorities or insurance companies do not need to assign it to the status of a heavily damaged vehicle.

Tesla warranties and service contracts are canceled for “perpetrated” vehicles. Even fast charging cannot be used!

Tesla’s other statements regarding its unsupported vehicle policy are as follows:

Tesla does not guarantee the safety or operability of unsupported vehicles. Once a vehicle is declared a total loss or classified as an unsupported vehicle, Repairs to return the vehicle to service may not meet Tesla standards or specifications and any malfunctions, damages or injuries that occur as a result of such repairs are entirely the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

Tesla does not recommend purchasing an unsupported Tesla vehicle, including those registered as salvaged. Tools registered as clean may also be classified as unsupported. Until Tesla confirms that the vehicle complies with Tesla’s safety standards and vehicle specifications, due to the possibility that the unsupported vehicle may have been damaged causing does not perform or support repairs involving high voltage battery systems in the vehicle:

  • Making it unsafe to drive
  • making the vehicle unsafe for any repair technician who may work on the vehicle
  • that can damage Tesla equipment such as superchargers

When a tool is classified as an unsupported tool:

  • All Tesla limited warranties and extended service agreements on the vehicle are permanently void.
NOTE: Repairs resulting from the recall will be performed unless the condition of the vehicle or vehicle modifications not performed by Tesla prevent the vehicle from being repaired safely. If the Tesla Service Center determines that the vehicle is unsafe to repair, repairs related to the recall will not be made until the customer returns the vehicle to a condition in which the Service Center determines it is safe to repair.
  • Fast charging is disabled. This will include Tesla Supercharge and all third-party fast charging infrastructures.
  • Tesla may conduct safety inspections of the vehicle (at customer request and at the customer’s expense) can be realized.
  • Parts availability is not affected. Any Unlimited or Over-the-Counter parts can be purchased for a so-called Unsupported vehicle.
  • For unsupported vehicles Use of the mobile application is supported.
