Frankfurt The preparation of a tax return takes hours, is bone-dry and complicated by impenetrable technical terminology – that is the expectation of most Germans. Many therefore postpone it until the reminder comes from the tax office. Or don’t take advantage of all possible tax benefits because they haven’t scrolled or clicked through all the subdirectories.
Tax apps such as Taxfix, Steuerbot and Wundertax promise to create a tax return in 20 minutes – on your smartphone, from your sofa. For employees, students and pensioners, this is a good alternative to the paper tax return and the Elster online portal of the tax authorities. Because before taxpayers make no declaration at all and give away money as a result, they should rather make the slimmed-down declaration.
But the quick click also has weaknesses. The Handelsblatt explains what the tax apps can do and for whom the tax return via software is more worthwhile.
