Big Changes in App Store: Users in the European Union (EU) will now be able to choose an alternative app store as the default app store on their iPhone. Apple made a number of changes to system messaging to make this feature possible.
Transcripts on Apple Podcasts: Full-text transcripts are now available for all podcasts on Apple Podcasts. In addition to improving the listening experience, transcripts also increase accessibility for hearing-impaired users.
SharePlay for HomePod: The SharePlay feature is now also available with HomePod. In this way, you can listen to Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and other audio content via HomePod with more than one person.
New Emoji: iOS 17.4 includes new emoji characters such as lemon, edible brown mushroom, phoenix, broken chain, vertically nodding head (meaning yes) and horizontally nodding head (meaning no). Additionally, 18 person and body emojis now have the option to look in both directions.
Other Features:
- CarPlay: iOS 17.4 includes preparations for the next generation of CarPlay, which will be released in the US later in 2024.
- iMessage Security Update: iMessage includes an update that fixes a security vulnerability.
- New Features Appearing in the Code: There are signs in the code of future features like Apple Music Classical, family sharing for the Fitness+ subscription, and a new operating system for the AR/VR headset.
