VW works council vs. executive board: “Brands have to cooperate better”

Wolfsburg The chairwoman of the Volkswagen works council, Daniela Cavallo, sees deficits in the implementation of the group strategy and primarily blames the board of directors around CEO Herbert Diess for this. “We notice that certain topics are not being implemented smoothly across brands,” said Cavallo in an interview with Handelsblatt. The group’s board of directors must ensure “that the brands work better together”.

According to the chairman of the works council, there are particular problems at the software subsidiary Cariad, where the group brands should also improve their cooperation. “From my point of view, Mr. Diess should also provide more support,” she emphasized.

Cavallo also criticized the group’s handling of the current chip crisis. “There was a lack of sustainable and strategic semiconductor management,” she said. Other car manufacturers such as BMW would have solved the acute supply problems much better.
