Volvo EX90 announced: Electric flagship!

Delivering the opening speech of the Safety Mind event Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars announced the new electric flagship. by Volvo “Born from electricity and completed with softwareThe name of the new flagship described as ”: Volvo EX90

The EX90, a fully electric premium SUV, will replace the XC90, already Volvo’s flagship vehicle. Rowan says this new flagship vehicle can help reduce accidents that cause serious injury or death by one-fifth.to an invisible security shieldHe said he would have.

Pushing the limits of safety, the Volvo EX90 will replace the XC90

Volvo, which already has a very good record in accident safety, adds a Lidar sensor to the vehicle for the first time to achieve this goal. This system, which will be placed on the roofline of the EX90, will use light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure distances with high precision.

Stating that the differences that Lidar creates in terms of life safety are remarkable, Rowan said, “Our latest research, adding lidar to a car could reduce crashes with serious consequences by up to 20 percent. and shows that collision avoidance can be improved by up to 9 percent.” said.

Lidar technology, which belongs to Luminar and will become standard equipment in Volvos, can detect pedestrians at a distance of up to 250 meters, even in high-speed areas such as highways.

Another advantage of Lidar is because it is not dependent on light being used day and night. The Lidar in the EX90’s road tracking system will be accompanied by 8 cameras, 5 radars and 16 ultrasonic sensors. While Volvo has revealed the car’s name and safety capabilities, it has yet to share its design and technical details.

Another innovation is the real-time indoor detection system. Two cameras are used to detect situations that endanger driving, especially when the driver is not awake. While this system measures how far the driver looks at the road, it will track his eyes and steering wheel movements to determine if his mind is focused elsewhere.

Joachim de Verdier, Volvo’s head of safe vehicle automation, said about this vehicle;

“We believe the EX90 is the safest Volvo ever to hit the road. All of our security systems, sensors, software and computing power come together to form a protective shield.”

This new flagship from Volvo will be officially unveiled on November 9, 2022.
