Washington In the USA, unemployment rose again at the beginning of the year for the first time in six months. The rate rose 0.1 points month-on-month to 4 percent in January, the Labor Department said on Friday. It’s the first increase since June. Experts were surprised.

They had expected an unchanged rate of 3.9 percent on average. In December, unemployment had fallen to this value – the lowest since February 2020 and thus before the start of the Corona crisis.

At the same time, the US economy created significantly more jobs than expected in January. Outside of agriculture, 467,000 jobs were added, the ministry said. Experts had expected 125,000. In addition, the increase in employment in the two previous months was revised upwards by a total of 709,000 jobs.
