The US government continues to take important steps to prevent money laundering and the use of cryptocurrencies in cybercrime.
US Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said in her speech at the Aspen Institute Cyber Summit that they are launching the “National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team” with the aim of disabling financial platforms that help increase cybercriminals.
Monaca stated that their team includes cyber and money laundering experts and prosecutors dealing with cybercrime.
The Attorney General continued, stating that they do not want cybercriminals to proliferate and profit from their actions:
Cryptocurrency exchanges want to be the banks of the future. We need to make sure that people can trust themselves when using these systems.
We need to make sure we’re prepared to root out any abuse that could take over people as they use these exchanges.
The famous Attorney General also announced the launch of a “civil cyber fraud” initiative that will use civil enforcement tools against companies that do not report security breaches by failing to comply with the cybersecurity standards set by the US government.
