Union threatens veto in Bundesrat

Berlin Among the federal states governed by the Union, there are increasing calls for the annual tax law to be rejected in the Bundesrat on Friday if necessary if the coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP is not prepared to make changes. There is a “considerable need for discussion,” said the Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein of the Handelsblatt. “We do not want to accept that the inheritance tax on real estate is increased through the back door,” explained the CDU politician.

The Bundestag passed the annual tax law in early December. The package includes numerous changes in the tax area. Among other things, tax advantages are planned in housing construction, for solar power systems and for employees. But there are also changes that amount to tax increases – for example, with a first-time “excess profit tax” for some energy companies and the valuation law, which should make real estate transfers more expensive.
