With unusual unity, the youth organizations of the Greens, SPD, FDP and the Union have called for rallies for peace in Ukraine. “With yesterday’s recognition of the separatist areas and the announcement of the troop invasion of them, Vladimir Putin has unequivocally chosen the path of escalation,” says the joint call by Green Youth, Jusos, Young Liberals and Young Union to a rally on Tuesday afternoon “in Berlin in front of the Russian embassy and from there throughout the country”.
Russia must respect the integrity of the European borders and return to the negotiating table, it said in the text agreed between the youth organizations. And: “As a young generation that did not experience the Cold War itself, it is also our responsibility to keep the peace in Europe and prevent war.”
