Berlin The mood in the executive floors of the German economy brightened up surprisingly in February. The barometer for the business climate rose for the second month in a row – to 98.9 points after 96.0 points in January, as the Munich Ifo Institute announced on Tuesday in its monthly survey of around 9,000 managers.

Economists polled by Reuters had only expected a rise to 96.5. “The German economy is counting on an end to the corona crisis. The escalation of the crisis in Ukraine remains a risk factor,” said Ifo President Clemens Fuest. The executives assessed their business situation and the prospects for the next six months as significantly better than they had recently.
