Two months after the opening of Ukrainian ports

Vienna For some it’s a major diplomatic success, for others an economic threat: since August 1, Ukraine has been exporting agricultural products and other goods through ports on the Black Sea again. The export business brings the war-torn country the urgently needed foreign currency.

At the same time, Ukrainian grain exports are causing upheaval in neighboring countries. In order to support the economically ailing Ukraine, all import duties on Ukrainian imports into the EU have been suspended for one year since June 4th. In Brussels, EU politicians were enthusiastic about the agreement.

For example, the Latvian MEP and permanent rapporteur for Ukraine, Sandra Kalniete, spoke of unprecedented trade liberalization measures. The EU must show that support for Ukraine is unconditional, unshakable and irreversible.
