Berlin The state as an employer is becoming less and less interesting for lawyers – at least financially. Because as a career starter, you can earn significantly more money with a large commercial law firm or as an in-house lawyer.

This is shown by a current remuneration analysis by the management consultancy Kienbaum on salary developments for lawyers in the private sector and in law firms on behalf of the German Association of Judges (DRB). The figures are exclusively available to the Handelsblatt.

According to this, lawyers in a large law firm earn an average of 139,000 euros per year at the first career level. Lawyers in companies receive an average of 98,000 euros per year.

For comparison: According to the Association of Judges, anyone who starts their career today as a single judge or public prosecutor receives an average of around 60,000 euros gross per year after a few years of professional experience.
