BMW production, police control, test laboratory

The increasing number of people infected with corona and employees in quarantine is putting a strain on companies and critical infrastructure.

Dusseldorf In the federal police, almost 1,500 officers are currently on sick leave or in quarantine because of Corona. The carmaker BMW is considering securing production with temporary workers, as the laser specialist Trumpf is already doing in part in Austria and Switzerland. Germany’s laboratories are reaching the edge of their test capacities. And in Saxony, because of the infection process, the police can currently only carry out half as many police checks as usual.

In mid-January, the Omikron variant has Germany’s companies and authorities firmly under control. On Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute reported more than 100,000 new infections with the corona virus for the first time. On Thursday it registered another record with 133,536 new cases within 24 hours, the seven-day incidence is now 638.8.
