These four risks could lead to a severe recession

Berlin Anyone who listened to Robert Habeck (Greens) presenting the federal government’s new economic forecast on Wednesday might think that Germany is in free fall. The Economics Minister spoke of a “significant economic slump”. The new growth forecast for 2022 is 1.4 percent.

The government even expects a recession in 2023. With a minus of 0.4 percent, the German economy would by no means reach the dimensions of past crises. The corona pandemic caused gross domestic product to shrink by around four percent in 2020 alone. And there are other opinions too. The employer-financed Institute of the German Economy (IW) Cologne expects a minus of 1.75 percent for 2023, Deutsche Bank considers three to four percent to be conceivable.
