These companies pay the highest dividends

Dusseldorf Despite inflation, a turnaround in interest rates, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, 2022 should be a decent dividend year for shareholders. This emerges from a study by the British fund house Janus Henderson, which is available to the Handelsblatt. “The dividend payments this year relate to what was generated last year. In general, 2021 was a very positive year in this respect,” explains Handelsblatt finance editor Anke Rezmer in the Handelsblatt Today podcast.

In the current episode, she talks about the most generous dividend payers and reveals which sectors investors can still benefit from. Whether a company’s dividend increases depends largely on the company’s strategy.

“The question is how much of the profit is used for new products, expansion, reserve or as a distribution,” says Rezmer. In the tech sector, for example, less would be paid out because the companies retained more for their growth.

Oil producers and commodity groups are paying particularly generous dividends this year

Over the past five years, companies across five sectors have stood out as having high dividend yields. “The sectors of banks, oil producers, pharmaceutical companies, telecommunications companies and insurers are interesting for dividend seekers,” says Rezmer. Mining companies that extract raw materials have also been lucrative since last year.

The outlook for the rest of the year remains positive: Analysts expect that the majority of companies will pay out more than last year. However, Rezmer warns “The increase will not be as strong as last year, when companies were able to distribute massive profits free of the corona pandemic. However, no massive cuts like during the pandemic are expected either.”
