Since the beginning of the year, the papers have lost 68 percent.

Lisbon, Düsseldorf 46 million euros per year to have their own logo printed on soccer jerseys: This is what Teamviewer has to explain again and again, even months after the sponsorship deal with Manchester United (“ManU”).

At the international technology conference WebSummit, Marketing Director Lisa Agon tried it this way: “As a brand, we are not as well known as we would like to be,” says the manager on stage. The traditional English club offers a kind of global platform for team viewers to become popular. “And it helps us to charge the brand with emotions.”

Megalomania or clever marketing? Manchester United is also followed by fans in Asia, where Teamviewer is set to grow vigorously. The problem: It wasn’t far from the shareholders’ enthusiasm for football. Investors lacked the imagination of how a sponsorship deal worth an incredible ten percent of sales would ever pay off.
