There will now be online courses on Spotify

Spotify has started to take steps in the online course field, where competition is quite intense. Spotify is experimenting with online learning with video-based courses launching today. Let’s take a look at the details together.

Currently only available in the UK, Spotify’s video courses are the result of collaborations with education platforms such as Skillshare, BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso and Thinkific. Courses are offered by Spotify in four main categories called “making music, being creative, learning business, and healthy living.”

While most of the courses offered by the platform are music-related, there are also courses in areas such as music recording and production, songwriting, DJing and radio broadcasting. There are also courses that focus on specific music genres such as rap, grime, garage, drum and bass, house and techno.

However, the platform also offers classes on a variety of topics, from entrepreneurship, business, cooking, money management, dance, fitness, mental health, video production and watercolor painting to photography and graphic design.

Premium subscribers and free Spotify users can get two lessons for each course for free, but the remaining lessons must be purchased. It’s a similar model to Spotify’s audiobook system, where it gives free monthly listening hours to premium users.
