The wrong people have to pay to save Uniper billions

The state rescues the gas company Uniper with billions in aid. In the end, it is primarily the citizens who are allowed to pay for it. And not too tight. That should be a right to be outraged. Even if it has to be clear in the end: there was no alternative to the rescue operation.

For years, the Düsseldorf-based energy company has benefited from its close ties to Russia and made a good deal of money in the process. The former Eon subsidiary drove the construction of the two Baltic Sea pipelines Nord Stream I and II, is one of the largest Gazprom customers in Europe and has always defended Russia as a reliable supply partner. And against any criticism from countless experts from other EU countries, the USA or even their own homeland.

Now Uniper is facing the shards of its Russia-focused strategy. Just like Germany.
