Berlin He’s back in Russia. Or was he never really gone? The whereabouts of Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner mercenaries, continues to be a mystery.

After his uprising on June 24, many gave him little time. Anyone who, like him, marches towards Moscow with his own troops, occupies a Russian city and thus threatens Vladimir Putin’s power, will sooner or later end up like most Kremlin critics: dead.

For this reason he is said to have sought shelter in Minsk in Belarus – an offer from the ruler there Alexander Lukashenko, who presented himself as a mediator between Prigozhin and Putin after the attempted coup. It was he who surprised again on Thursday when he laconically announced at a press conference that the Wagner boss was not in the country.
