“The story of my wife” new in the cinema: The big yawn – cinema

The latest work by director Ildikó Enyedi (65, “Body and Soul”), “The Story of My Wife”, who was celebrated at the 2017 Berlinale, is unfortunately a complete disappointment.

Story: Jacob (Gijs Naber, 41) bets a friend while visiting a café that he will marry the next woman who comes through the door. To his relief, it is the equally beautiful and self-confident Lizzy (Léa Seydoux, 36) who actually takes a liking to him …

The story set in the 1920s (based on a novel by Milán Füst) was filmed in various European cities – including Hamburg. Unfortunately, Enyedi does next to nothing out of the great scenery. Instead, the far too long film gets bogged down in side plots and weak dialogues.

Conclusion: Dull and convoluted: The story of a love destroyed by jealousy, which is still fascinating in the book, is just boring on the screen.
