The new corona weapon 2G – Handelsblatt Morning Briefing

German autumn 2021 is like German autumn 2020: In the case of Corona, debates revolve around the incidence and not primarily about specific hospitalization data – that was agreed differently. And again politicians outbid each other in the attention race with individual proposals. This time, the focus is on two topics:

2G is now valid in Bavaria’s clubs and discos. Otherwise, one of these highly unreliable rapid tests is no longer sufficient; it must now be a negative PCR test. Saxony does a whole lot of things right away: From this Monday onwards, the 2G regulation will apply uniformly there.

The traffic light coalition has not yet finished negotiating, as the SPD, Greens and FDP will present new pandemic rules to the Bundestag next Thursday. In an interview with Handelsblatt, FDP General Secretary Volker Wissing explains why this is a departure from the old Corona regime.

In detail he says about …

  • the current situation: “The end of the epidemic does not mean the end of all measures. Thanks to the high vaccination rate, the number of infections leads to a significantly lower number of hospital admissions. The basis for the special powers of the federal government is no longer applicable. “
  • to the procedure: “The Bundestag has to make decisions, not the Prime Minister’s Conference. In the future, the parliament will make the specifications. “
  • Vaccinations: “The booster vaccinations represent the next phase in the fight against Covid-19. With the FDP, there will be no compulsory vaccination, neither for the entire population nor in certain professions. To fight the pandemic, we have to regain the trust of the population. “

What is being described here is a complete change of course. Corona policy is being pushed back from the special track for state experiments into a train station called Democracy.

So far, the phrase has been that the burden of the challenges for the new federal government is significantly greater than the volume of financial resources. The submission of the Federal Ministry of Finance for a tax estimate is encouraging; Because of Minister Scholz, almost Chancellor Scholz can be a little more optimistic. According to this, around 160 billion euros more tax money than planned would be available from 2021 to 2025, as my colleagues have learned.

In the future, the federal government will account for more than ten billion annually. However, the scope for distribution is not enough to meet all the wishes of the possible traffic light coalition. That should not change if the potential treasurer Christian Lindner (FDP) is calculating.

Tesla boss Elon Musk always takes care of showtime. He is now introducing something like an “imperative mandate” for the economy – and actually had a vote on Twitter whether he should part with ten percent of his Tesla shares. Then taxes would be due. So far, he has paid zero taxes for the immense increase in the value of his portfolio.

Musk has invested much of his estimated $ 330 billion fortune in stocks. In fact, almost 58 percent voted for the sale of the securities on Twitter. Musk promises to adhere to it. Donald Trump once used Twitter as a personal fake news sling, Musk, on the other hand, does something very rustic here – shareholder PR. Everyone who invests in Tesla has to stick to André Kostolany: “Stock market profits are compensation for pain and suffering. First comes the pain, then the money. “

More and more intimate details are known about the workers’ uprising at Volkswagen and the Herbert Diess case. It has now leaked into “Business Insider” that the Wolfsburg-based CEO commissioned his strategy team in mid-September to create a “Target 2030” for personnel development at VW AG. This included the reduction of 30,000 to 35,000 jobs at the Wolfsburg location, i.e. every second job. The Diess order was sent by email to a larger group of confidants, and works council chief Daniela Cavallo immediately informed the Volkswagen supervisory board.

Cavallo criticized in the Handelsblatt interview the “communication form of Mr. Diess”. In the committees, he said not a word about job cuts. New manufacturing technologies could of course “generate less employment in some places”, but the “deserted factory” will not exist in 2030 or 2040. And, by the way: “There was a lack of sustainable and strategic semiconductor management. The Cariad software unit could have a higher speed. “

We remember a quote from the German professor Michael Marie Jung: “You don’t have the conflicts under control as long as they have you under control.”

Amanda Rajkumar has been Head of Human Resources at Adidas since the beginning of 2021.

And then there is Amanda Rajkumar, the new HR director at Adidas, who wants to tackle the old internal “Black Lives Matter” debates in the Franconian sporting goods company. When asked whether there was a specific racism problem in the Herzogenaurach-based company, she replied to our editorial team: “Adidas is a very inclusive company. We want everyone to have the same starting and promotion opportunities. ”

In 2022, Adidas will be the first DAX company to systematically record diversity worldwide using a new type of data survey. They set themselves specific goals – for example, to increase the proportion of Latinos and black people among US executives to twelve percent by 2025. The proportion of women in top management should in turn grow to at least 40 percent by then.

The new supervisory board member and three-time Olympic champion Jackie Joyner-Kersee, whose heptathlon world record from 1988 still stands, should help with motivational speeches. That could seem like – of course legal – doping for the corporate culture.

I wish you a lively start to the week.

Greetings you warmly
you
