Inflation in Germany and the euro area is rising and rising. According to the latest figures, it hit new records in September. And the upward trend is likely to continue for a few more months.
The central banks are in a dilemma. After all, the cause of the current price surge lies primarily in supply bottlenecks, if one disregards effects such as the withdrawal of the VAT cut in Germany. For example, there is too little capacity in chip production, which means that other sectors, such as the automotive industry, cannot start up their factories as desired. Production is stagnating in many sectors, causing prices to rise across the board.
