The federal government sees no basis for compensating network operators if Chinese components are banned.

Berlin, Brussels For a long time it was only an abstract danger for the German mobile phone companies, now it is becoming concrete: The federal government could order the gradual expansion of Chinese technology from Huawei and ZTE from the new, particularly fast 5G networks before the end of this year. According to information from the Handelsblatt, individual components from these manufacturers were identified as a potential safety risk.

Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica are threatened with high costs, some estimates put them at several billion euros. The companies would probably like to be compensated for this by the taxpayer. For example, Telefónica announced in March that it would examine claims for damages and possibly enforce them in court.
