“The energy crisis will be significantly more expensive for the state than Corona”

Berlin According to Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD), Germany will still face immense financial burdens in view of the energy crisis. “In economic terms, the energy crisis is a much greater challenge than the pandemic. And the energy crisis will also be significantly more expensive for the state than Corona,” Weil told the Handelsblatt. “Across country, all areas of the economy are actually affected, some particularly hard.”

With a view to the next relief, Weil called on the federal and state governments to take decisive action. “We are still at the beginning of this crisis, not at the apex.”

Companies and citizens now need a reliable basis for planning. “Therefore we cannot avoid an energy price cap,” said the SPD politician. “Nevertheless, we will probably have to organize further aid programs at the same time.” The price cap, however, must be the foundation. “The price for a specific base for gas consumption must be calculable and available as a basic requirement.”
