Berlin There he sits, the highly decorated scientist, in the courtyard of a posh Italian restaurant in Berlin-Mitte, anxiously looking at his smartphone. This is good news for Lars Feld: he can participate in pop star Taylor Swift’s ticket presale.

Feld is actually not a “Swiftie”, as fans of the US artist call themselves. Rather, the Freiburg economist is obsessed with concerts. Most recently he attended the jazz festival in Montreux on Lake Geneva, and Bruce Springsteen is on the agenda for this weekend in Munich.

But an even more important role for Feld is occupied by a person whose musical output is limited to a few appearances at carnival sessions. Christian Lindner, head of the Federal Ministry of Finance, which is right across the street.
