Berlin/Dusseldorf Cheers from the CDU and Greens, blank faces from the SPD and FDP. Although the projections for the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia revealed clear winners and losers, nothing was clear on the evening of the election. Because which coalition will govern the most populous federal state in the future is completely open.

The results in detail:

CDU: According to the ARD extrapolation, the Christian Democrats won the NRW elections with 35.7 percent. The CDU did slightly better than five years ago and also slightly better than surveys had recently predicted.

It was not an easy election because Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst was not yet able to slip fully into the role of the state father after Armin Lachet moved into federal politics last October and so went into the election without a major bonus.
