Berlin Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens) does not rule out a lawsuit against the controversial plans of the EU Commission for a “green label” for nuclear and gas-fired power plants. When asked whether Germany would join the announced lawsuit by Austria and Luxembourg, Lemke told the Handelsblatt: “We are currently concentrating on the technical statement. We will evaluate other questions later. ”After submitting the final decision on the taxonomy, the federal government will coordinate its further course of action.
According to Lemke, in its statement to the Commission, the federal government will reiterate its “clear no” to nuclear power. The further procedure would then be in the hands of the EU Commission or the French EU Council Presidency. “Unfortunately, it looks like there is no qualified majority of EU member states against the classification of nuclear power as a sustainable energy source,” said the Green politician.
