Steam is dropping support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1

Steam, one of the popular gaming platforms used by millions of players today, has stopped supporting old Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 operating systems as of January 1, 2024. So what happens now?

Steam will no longer support Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 operating systems!

This change made by Steam is due to the fact that the basic features of the platform depend on the Google Chrome engine, which no longer works on older Windows versions. Additionally, future versions of Steam will require security features that are only available on Windows 10 and above.

Windows 7 users should switch to Windows 10 or a higher operating system as soon as possible in order to play games on Steam and benefit from all the opportunities of the platform. Microsoft had already discontinued security updates for Windows 7 in January 2020.

Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 have now become insecure operating systems. Because these Windows versions cannot be protected against new vulnerabilities and threats. This threatens the security of user computers and Steam accounts.

Therefore, it is very important for users to upgrade to Windows 10 or above to protect both their security and their Steam experience. Otherwise, malware exploiting vulnerabilities in systems may cause serious problems.
