Statement from Minister Mehmet Şimşek on Cryptocurrencies: The Final Stage Has Been Reached!

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek said that the work with cryptocurrencies in the fight against financial crimes has reached a certain stage.

Minister Mehmet Şimşek made a presentation on the 2024 budgets at the GNAT Planning and Budget Commission today.

According to the information provided by Anadolu Agency, Minister Şimşek also included cryptocurrencies in the part of his speech regarding the fight against financial crimes:

Fighting financial crimes is among our main priorities. According to the report shared by FATF, our country is compatible with 39 of 40 FATF standards. Within the scope of technical compliance, the only issue that is still under preparation is the work related to crypto assets. Our necessary work in this regard has reached the final stage. In this state, Türkiye has become one of the most successful countries in technical harmonization. We are determined to continue and increase our work in this context. We are striving to remove our country from the gray list with the effectiveness we will provide in practice.

In the program, it was stated that legislative studies on cryptocurrencies will continue and studies on taxation will be completed.
