Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı shared a post about the 100th anniversary celebrations on X. Ortaylı stated that the republic was not respected and protected.
Türkiye is preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the republic this year. However, there were discussions due to issues such as the postponement of some events due to Israeli-Palestinian tensions. About celebrations today Prof. Dr. From İlber Ortaylı A harsh statement came.
Ortaylı stated in his post on his X (Twitter) account that there will be no such celebration. Additionally, in Turkey, the republic not respected and cared for He also added it to his statements.
İlber Ortaylı’s statement:
“Our people are not aware of what the republic has brought and its gains. What is Ataturk’s dream, what kind of geography is this place, what are the conditions around it? There is no thought about these. We live without questioning and unaware. This situation brings irresponsibility to both the voters and the elected.
We are in the 100th year of our Republic. There is no celebration like this. No republic has celebrated its 100th anniversary like this. The country in the world where public conscience is weak is the USA because Americans are a strange nation. “United States” is important to them; Their own “state” remains in the background or they are proud of it but do not consecrate it with ceremonies. For example, any empire has minority people under its control. The saying “God save the Tsar and keep him away from us” comes from them. The existence of the state is a guarantee, but it is considered that it should stay away from us, it is not mine. There is such a strange thing in America, but even there such days are celebrated every 50 or 100 years.
In countries like France, this is a purely national issue, the celebration of the republic. The 200th and 300th anniversary of the monarchy is celebrated. People are embracing it. Although the Romanovs were not the most beloved Russian dynasty, Russians celebrated the Romanovs.
In our country, people did not respect the Republic. No one should be sorry. Turks did not respect or protect their Republic. “I hope a different picture will emerge in the 150th year.”
