Berlin Many homeowners are faced with the choice of whether to have a heat pump installed instead of gas or oil heating. Due to the high demand and delivery bottlenecks among manufacturers, heat pumps are currently significantly more expensive to purchase, but usually cheaper to maintain (in new buildings anyway).
After all, they can generate up to five kWh of heat (SPF 5) with one kilowatt hour of electricity. In order to offset the higher investment costs to some extent, the federal government agreed on a new funding concept on Wednesday.
In addition, the profitability of the heat pump stands or falls with the operating costs, i.e. the prices for electricity and fossil fuels. For years, heat pumps offered the great advantage that the electricity required for their operation was cheaper if an extra meter was installed.
Before the energy price crisis, the special heat pump tariff usually cost just over 20 cents per kWh, i.e. a third less than normal household electricity.
