So the Cariad boss wants to clear his construction sites

Las Vegas, Dusseldorf Officially, the line at Volkswagen is clear: Cariad remains, as CEO Oliver Blume recently said in an interview with the Handelsblatt. The carmaker’s software unit, launched in 2020 by Blume’s predecessor Herbert Diess, is not up for grabs, at least for the time being.

This security gives Cariad boss Dirk Hilgenberg creative freedom. Hilgenberg wants to make 2023 the “Year of Delivery”: “Our main topic now is the implementation of our goals,” he said in an interview with the Handelsblatt. Hilgenberg admits that it has not been active enough in the past to provide information. “We are now communicating more transparently within the team, the brands and to the outside world.”

Volkswagen’s software unit had recently repeatedly caused trouble for the group: whether with the electric Porsche Macan or VW’s at least postponed lighthouse project Trinity – there was often a problem with the software, over which Blume’s predecessor Herbert Diess ultimately stumbled. Like Diess, Blume is now the chief supervisor of the software unit. And finally has to get the construction site under control.
