Scottish meteorologist Scott Duncan had passed a warning on January 22 with graphics simulating snowfall in Turkey. Duncan, in his post today, explained why the snowfall occurred and included the frames of Turkey taken from space.
Turkey is witnessing the heaviest snowfall in recent years. Snowfalls, which affected almost the entire country, disrupted intercity and urban transportation for hours, and caused the citizens to suffer for a long time. Well Turkey, what happened to be exposed to such a heavy snowfall all of a sudden?
The answer to this question was actually given by Scottish meteorologist Scott Duncan, who had warned southeast Europe of a heavy snowfall before. Duncan, who shared about the heavy snowfall seen in Turkey and Greece, factors that cause snowfall explained with graphics. The meteorologist also shared a video where all the regions covered with snow are seen from space.
The journey of the cold air wave that caused snowfall in Turkey:
Scott Duncan, first shared on January 22 re-sharing the graphic, he said, “This is the reason why it snows in Turkey and Greece”. Shared sprite, reaching as far as Europe region cold wave was clearly showing. Duncan included the following statements and graphics in his other posts:
“A strong meander in jet winds allows cold air to descend south. Cold air moving south over the relatively warm waters of the Black Sea and the eastern Mediterranean can act as a snow machine for this part of the world.”
“High pressure over Central/Western Europe is key and usually occurs when Southeastern Europe is covered in snow. Very benign weather away from the southeast.”
Turkey from Space:
After these explanations, Duncan, showing how heavy the snowfall in Turkey is and where it covers from space, A video taken on December 24 shared. That video was like this:
Almost the same video as this was actually shown in the simulation shared on January 22. So the warnings were there before:
Duncan, in fact, in another post he made on January 22, showed exactly the situation we saw above. Stating that he had made serious warnings about snow before, Duncan’s post on January 22 and Extending to January 26, i.e. today That video simulating the snow puddle in Turkey was as follows:
