Snapchat launches parental control app

Snapchat is rolling out its first parental control features, announced last October. The new features the company includes are based on similar parental control systems used in other apps, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Parental controls are starting on Snapchat

To use the new feature, called Family Center, parents must link their own accounts to their children’s Snapchat profiles. Thus, parents will be able to see which accounts their children have been chatting with in the app in the last seven days. Parents will not be able to access the content of the messages.

Parents will also be able to view their child’s friend list and refer potential abuse to Snap’s Trust & Safety team for investigation. Parents will be able to access the new controls by searching for “family center” or related terms from the app’s Profile Settings or the app’s Search feature.

Snapchat states that the new app can be used by teens under the age of 18 and their parents. Other social media apps offer similar features. However, attention is drawn to the need for greater parental control due to the way Snapchat works.

Snapchat’s disappearing messages feature makes it easy for teens to engage in bullying, abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors like texting. The company has taken different measures so far in order to prevent all these disturbing issues.

The application aims to prevent malicious people by revealing the necessity of being friends with young people in order to communicate. In addition, young people’s friend lists are also private, but they are also prevented from having public profiles. Snapchat also has various restrictions on suggested friends.

However, despite all this, parents have very limited control over their children. The company needs to take new measures to prevent undesirable situations in the future. So what do you think about the Snapchat app and parental control? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
