Now the pop star (“Nothing Compares 2 U”) has even announced that he never wants to sing again. “Insinuations that there will be performances again this year or next year or ever are false. There will never be anything for me to sing about again,” Sinéad wrote on Twitter.
For this year, the singer had actually planned numerous appearances around the world. But at the beginning of January, Sinéad had to accept another stroke of fate in her tragic life: her son Shane (17) was found dead in Dublin (Ireland). According to his mother, Shane had previously been placed in a clinic in the Irish capital, where he was under surveillance for suicidal tendencies.
After two unsuccessful attempts to take his own life, Shane escaped from the clinic on January 6 and was found dead a few days later.
“My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the light of my life, decided today to put an end to his earthly struggles and is now with God,” wrote O’Connor, who has converted to Islam Shuhada Davitt calls, full of sadness on Twitter.

Five days after her son’s death, Sinéad was admitted to a hospital. She decided to “follow” her child. She shared her mother’s pain with the world at the time: “I’m lost without my child and I hate myself. The hospital will help for a while.”
Sinéad chose a Hindu ceremony for her son’s funeral. This seemed to give her hope, because in Hinduism people believe in the passage of the soul into a new existence. “Colorful clothing” was expressly desired at the funeral service. Sinéad appeared in a bright pink jogging suit.
“It was a very beautiful Hindu ceremony,” wrote Sinéad O’Connor on Twitter afterwards. “Shane would have loved it. He always sang ‘Om. Shanti’.”
She also shared: “I put some packs of butts in his coffin in case there aren’t any in heaven. He would have liked that too.”

Sinéad O’Connor’s life is marked by instability. The singer is manic-depressive and is said to have been sexually abused as a girl by her mother (who died in a car accident in 1985), as she later said.
She has survived two suicide attempts and gone through four marriages. The last one only lasted 16 days.
