Dusseldorf Amazon is still the undisputed number one in Germany in e-commerce. Not even heavyweights like Zalando or Otto have been able to pose a threat to the US giant. But now the three fastest growing Chinese online retailers Shein, Temu and Alibaba have launched an offensive in Europe aimed at Amazon’s core business.

“We will continue to expand our presence in Europe, we have set ourselves ambitious goals,” announced Peter Pernot-Day, Shein’s global strategy chief, in an interview with Handelsblatt. The most important step: Shein will soon also be adding other brands to its platform, making it a marketplace like Amazon.

“We will soon be introducing a marketplace model in Europe as well, which will support our further growth in Germany, Spain, France and Italy,” confirms Pernot-Day.
