Frankfurt The venture capitalist is essentially a start-up itself. Schenker Ventures was founded just last year. The logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, DB Schenker, has bundled all of its venture activities in it in order to be able to better support founders from the logistics and supply chain industry.

Now his first investment has been found. Together with other financiers, Schenker Ventures is participating in a round of financing for the Berlin start-up Warehousing1. The commitment will be announced on Thursday.

Warehousing1 takes care of a well-known problem of many e-commerce companies. The number of orders is increasing faster than expected. The result: the logistics in the background can’t keep up, customers sometimes have to wait longer for their delivery. This frustrates customers and, if in doubt, reduces the company’s growth potential.

Warehousing1 offers companies services to enable them to deliver their goods quickly. “It was important for us to gain active partners who are able and willing to provide us with specific know-how from the logistics industry,” says Nils Aschmann, head of Warehousing1. He founded the company together with Nico Szeli and Fabian Sedlmayr in 2018.

The idea of the three founders: Services from small and medium-sized logistics companies are bundled. This creates a comprehensive network that e-commerce companies can access. There are now 850 locations, 500 partners work together with Warehousing1 in logistics.

As is usual with start-ups, the Warehousing1 team mentions only a few business data. According to Aschmann, revenue on the platform was in the low eight-digit range last year, with strong growth rates. Around 40 employees work for the young company.

The Sennder founders are also involved in Warehousing1

The business model is obviously popular in the logistics sector. This is shown by the list of previous investors: Among others, David Nothacker, Nicolaus Schefenacker and Julius Köhler are among them. The three founded the logistics start-up Sennder in 2015, which is now one of the so-called unicorns in Germany, i.e. companies that are valued at one billion dollars and more.

Other venture capitalists include HV Capital, Base10 Partners and Discovery Ventures. And now the Schenker subsidiary, together with Aster Capital, Wille Finance, HV Capital and Base10 Partners, is also making ten million euros available to the company.

For Paulina Banszerus, investment manager at Schenker Ventures, it is more than just a financial commitment: “Through our network and our logistics expertise as well as cooperation with experienced financial investors, we want to create a competitive advantage for Warehousing1.” DB Schenker will also have access to experts in areas such as warehouse logistics, IT infrastructure and online retail.
