Scandal at the G20 meeting: China blocks the final declaration

Bangalore The representatives of the largest industrialized and emerging countries (G20) have not been able to agree on condemning the war in Ukraine. Despite lengthy night-time negotiations, the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors from the G20 countries on Saturday in Bangalore ended without a joint communiqué. China and Russia blocked the final statement.

Instead, as the G20 presidency, India had to publish a statement. In it, the conflict was openly named. While there was agreement on many issues relating to global financial and economic policy in the G20 round, a footnote notes that China and Russia do not support the two paragraphs on the Ukraine war.
