Savings banks warn of excessive demands from the heating law

Hanover The savings banks have criticized the federal government’s previous plans to convert private heating systems. “The change from oil and gas heating to heat pumps is only feasible if people can cope with it economically and the power grids can cope with it technically,” said Helmut Schleweis, President of the Sparkasse, on Tuesday.

At the press conference on the German Savings Banks Day, the head of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association (DSGV) described the desire to replace fossil-fuelled heating systems as quickly as possible as understandable. But anyone who is afraid that functioning heating systems will have to be torn down “will not support the necessary measures with full conviction”.

“It’s worth taking a holistic look at this law again,” said Schleweis. However, the DSGV does not have any figures on the proportion of customers who own real estate who may not be able to afford a heating replacement.
