Martin Shkreli, accused Paul Le Roux as crime cartel boss Satoshi Nakamoto claimed to be. Prominent Bitcoin developers, on the other hand, fiercely opposed the allegations.
Shkreli claimed to have decrypted the first transfer sent to the deceased Hal Finney. Shkreli, once known but discredited in the field of biotechnology, Paul LeRouxHe claimed that he was Satoshi.
Paul Le Roux was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2012. Roux was sentenced to 25 years in prison in June 2020 for drug dealing and arms smuggling. Roux, who was expected to serve a life sentence, received a lesser sentence for collaboration.
Known for his interest in the software world, Roux was actually one of the names claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. A Wired article published in 2019 suggested that Bitcoin had evidence that it was created by a criminal.
Leading Bitcoin Core developer Peter Wuille has suggested that someone with access to Finney’s private key allegedly signed the message.
Greg Maxwell also opposed Shkreli’s claims, arguing that the signature type used by the alleged Satoshi did not exist until Finney’s was disabled. So someone might be checking the private key of the deceased software developer.
Indeed, if Shkreli is right, it means that Le Roux probably created Bitcoin as a money laundering tool to support his criminal empire, confirming the warnings of many cryptocurrency opponents.
