Samsung unveils scrollable screen technology

Technology companies focused on the CES 2023 event held in Las Vegas to showcase their new products. As ShiftDelete.Net, one of the important announcements at the event, which we followed on-site, was the new display technologies developed by Samsung, or rather Samsung Display.

Samsung, which has maintained its top position in the field of OLED panel for years, has recently come to the fore with its foldable devices. While the Galaxy Fold and Flip series are becoming quite common, the fact that many other brands will introduce their foldable phones in 2023 proves that the excitement on this side is preserved.

Samsung is at CES 2023 with its scrollable screens!

There are two main reasons why the interest in foldable phones has not reached the desired level yet. Although it has decreased compared to the first times, the costs and users have question marks about the functionality of the foldable structure. Samsung, which likes to mark the fairs, came up with a new screen prototype.

of Samsung Flex Hybrid The new foldable display prototype, dubbed the coin, combines folding and swiping to deliver an entirely new form factor. Although this may sound a little strange at first, when we look at the basic logic, folding technology is used on the left side of the screen and scrolling technology is used on the right side.

In this way, large screens will be able to fit into smaller spaces compared to standard solutions. The screen sizes of the first prototypes exhibited by Samsung are 10.5 and 12.4 inches.

There is no more information about the Flex Hybrid that Samsung has shared. So it remains unclear how the company intends to market it. Of course, it is very important to think about commercialization. It may enter our lives within a few years, or it may remain just a prototype.

Not limited to Samsung phones, it has not forgotten tablets and laptops, which are more logical for this technology. It showcased a 17-inch prototype display based on Flex Hybrid technology. This display was introduced by Samsung Display CEO JS Choi at Intel Innovation 2022 in September and is available in two forms;

– Flex Slidable Solo

– Flex Slideable Duet

The first screen concept expands in only one direction, as can be understood from the phrase “Solo”. However, in the second screen concept, there is movement in both directions. In this way, a wide choice is offered from 13 inches to 17.3 inches.

New Digital Cockpit

Continuing its preparations for the self-driving vehicle market, which is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years, Samsung came up with the digital cockpit. While the 34-inch screen can be used for entertainment in autonomous driving mode, the 700R curve of the cockpit screen makes it easier to focus on the road in driving mode.

Samsung emphasized that the OLED solutions it developed are on the radar of the automotive industry.
