But they don’t seem to be satisfied with that either. Because Samsung has prepared the prototype for the 600 megapixel camera.
Samsung made a 600 megapixel camera! The target is the human eye!
Samsung was the first company to launch the 64 and 108 megapixel supported sensor on the phone camera side. Later, the industry followed this path. Now we are talking about 200 megapixel phones. As a matter of fact, two of them will be on sale this year. But Samsung’s future plan is bigger.
Samsung accepted claims in 2020 that it will make a 600-megapixel camera sensor. But since then, the project has either not started or it will be kept in great secrecy, so we have not encountered any leaks.

More details have emerged today. It is hard to believe in this technology, which we expect to be introduced in 2025 and to be used in the same year. Moreover, considering that the device will cover the camera island alone, it is not yet known in what format it will come.
Currently, Xiaomi has introduced the 12S Ultra, the world’s largest camera sensor phone of 1 inch, as a result of its cooperation with Sony. Samsung’s 600-megapixel camera will be much larger than that. In fact, the full size of the sensor is 1/0.57 inch as stated.
A phone in the size of the S22 Ultra will occupy 12 percent of the back side by itself. With a pixel size of 0.8µm, the sensor will protrude 22mm. In other words, even if the phone has a relatively thick structure of 1 cm, a 1.2 cm lens island, which is thicker than itself, will come on it.
Of course, it is very difficult for this lens to come to smartphones as it is. But as technology advances, it may become possible. Instead, Samsung may be planning to sell this sensor to camera or mini UAV manufacturers.
Another purpose of making this camera is to be fully equivalent to the human eye. Of course, since the human eye is not made up of lenses and sensors, a specific megapixel cannot be said. However, according to rough calculations, it reaches 10-15 megapixels on average, but 576 megapixels at the highest value, depending on the location and angle it looks at. This is the reason why Samsung insists on 600 megapixels.
