Samsung 32 Gbps GDDR7 memory was introduced!

First, we shared with you that Samsung developed new GDDR7 memory in 2022. We have been following these developments closely for a while. Because, compared to the existing GDDR6 and GDDR6X, it will be a big step forward, especially in terms of performance and support of new technologies. As a matter of fact, the expected day has come and Samsung introduced 32 Gbps GDDR7 memory. So what do they offer?

Samsung 32 Gbps GDDR7 memory was introduced!

Samsung made a significant innovation in graphics memory technology and introduced new GDDR7 memories. These new memories offer major improvements compared to the GDDR6 and GDDR6X we currently use. While GDDR7 offers an impressive speed of 32 Gbps, we typically see speeds of 16 Gbps on GDDR6 and 19-21 Gbps on GDDR6X. This speed increase will enable graphics cards to deliver higher performance by increasing their graphics processing capacity.

Samsung-made GDDR7 memories operate at only 1.1 V DRAM voltage, leaving JEDEC’s 1.2 V GDDR7 standard voltage behind. This means improvements in energy efficiency of up to 20 percent. Therefore, while reducing the impact on the environment, it ensures that the systems produce less heat and have a longer life.

NVIDIA Blackwell B200 artificial intelligence chip was introduced. The company says it has developed the most powerful artificial intelligence chip ever.

Among the innovations that come with GDDR7 is that it reduces thermal resistance by 70 percent compared to GDDR6, thus ensuring more efficient cooling of the memory. In other words, they can manage to stay cool in a stable system while performing much higher.

These new memories come with 16 Gbit density. In this way, it becomes a suitable option for NVIDIA’s strategy of increasing speed by keeping memory sizes constant. In other words, we see higher speed and performance in existing memory capacities.

Major graphics processor manufacturers such as NVIDIA and AMD also announced that they will start using GDDR7 in the second half of 2024. Therefore, we will see a big change in the consumer market starting from the next summer months.
