Russia’s war against Ukraine – all developments

The Ukrainian authorities and the state energy company Ukrenerho announced further temporary power cuts in and around the country’s largest cities on Friday. The background is the ongoing Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure.

The press department of Ukrenerho, the sole operator of Ukraine’s high-voltage power lines, said “emergency shutdowns” of four hours a day or more had resumed in the Kyiv region. “Due to significant damage and imbalances in the power system, prolonged power outages are possible,” it said.

Local governor Oleksiy Kuleba told Telegram on Friday that the Kyiv region will experience “harder and longer” shutdowns than before in war. Oleh Synyehubov, the governor of Kharkiv region, announced on Telegram that in his province, one-hour daily shutdowns should begin on Monday and include the country’s second-largest city, Kharkiv. The measures are necessary to stabilize the power grid attacked by Russia, he said.
